Industry veteran launches new company to provide essential compliance oversight for publishers. Bridget Wells, formerly a director at Hearst, to head Periodical Watchguard.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 15, 2006—With more than 20 years of management experience in the publishing industry within all facets of circulation, Bridget Wells has announced the formation of a new company—Periodical Watchguard, LLC—to provide independent oversight and compliance review for the magazine industry.

The mission of Periodical Watchguard is to make client members aware of compliance issues, spotlight fraudulent offers of periodicals by unauthorized sellers, offer assistance with legal follow up, and quantify the resulting loss of profits from consumer sales.

Bridget Wells, founder and managing director of Periodical Watchguard said, "On behalf of leading publishers, Periodical Watchguard has a mission that will not waver—to stop non-legitimate consumer offers by rogue sellers, help publishers track these unlawful actions, and assist in pursuing legal recourse."

Ms. Wells continued, "On the publishing side of the business, we experienced great frustration, not to mention financial loss and brand erosion, with sellers who were working outside established publisher guidelines and authorizations. This experience, and the many other publishers and agents who deal with rogue sellers daily, initiated my desire to form this new company."

To ensure industry-wide coverage, Periodical Watchguard also maintains a Professional Advisory Board, consisting of prominent circulators, agents, and other leading industry representatives. The Advisory Board will work with publishers and agents to stay on top of the needs and activities within the industry.

Prior to Periodical Watchguard, Ms. Wells worked at Hearst Communications as director of partnership marketing, agency and ABC Services. She was responsible for third party sales for all 18 of the company's consumer magazine titles, including Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, RedBook, O, The Oprah Magazine and Town & Country. Previously, Ms. Wells directed circulation planning for Wenner.

Media, publishers of Rolling Stone, US Weekly and Men's Journal. She has extensive management experience creating and executing circulation programs that are certified by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). Wells holds an MBA from Fordham University in New York City.
